Why Would I Need One?
If your house is suffering from damp problems, an air conditioner is a practical and inexpensive solution. If you have peeling wallpaper, or see mould growing on the surface, then this is an issue you should probably tackle. Left unresolved for long enough it could mean rooms need re-plastering or floorboards replacing. The average family of four at home for 12 hours a day can produce over 3 litres of water as moisture just through respiration.
How Good Are They?
Portable air conditioners can silently remove over 20 litres of excess moisture each day. Certain models are rated ‘A’ for energy efficiency, which means they use much less electricity than lower rated models.
How Do They Work?
Cool air can’t hold as much moisture as warmer air. So air conditioners follow this principle and make warm air cooler. They blow air over cooling coils, which condenses some of the moisture out of the air and onto the coils. The cooler, drier air is returned to the room, and the warmer, moister air is expelled out of the room, usually through a hose.
Where Can They Be Used?
Portable air conditioners can be used anywhere indoors. They usually have a recommended room size, so make sure you buy a suitable model.
